San Francisco Landscape
The San Francisco Bay Area landscape is stylish, creative, diverse, open-minded, conflicted, layered by history, blessed by climate, and full of hope – not unlike its residents!
From the Army Corps of Engineer’s aging stands of Eucalyptus and Cypress to the classic lines of Golden Gate Park laid out upon the Great Sand Waste; from Mexican Fan Palms lining Mission Street to the climate-adapted non-natives greening up Guerrero’s old concrete median, the history and attitudes of the citizenry is told over and over again in its selection of plant material throughout the landscape.
Whether yearning for the exotic or a taste of home, imposing civility or embracing the wild, we are rarely lacking for choice!
Objectively, San Francisco is one of the best places on earth to design and tend to planted spaces.
Whatever your entrée into the world of gardening, whether simply needing more usable space, wishing for privacy, hoping for edibles, wanting to open your home and embrace an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, yearning to connect to the surrounding plant and pollinator communities, or selecting that one meaningful tree that sparks a precious memory, at RareField Design/Build we regularly accommodate all of these requests and more in a single project.
We are able to do that because we believe perceived challenges are actually design opportunities. A steep slope is amazing, a view even better, a small lot means everything matters.
If you’d like a thoughtless expanse of level turf, there are other companies for this. But if you'd prefer a deeply personal, site-specific, living expression of your values and lifestyle, we would love to design with you.
