  • Job Description/ Requirements

As a Landscape Builder on the RareField crew you will be expected to grade spaces and install various types of hardscape, flatwork and stone. You’ll install irrigation and low voltage lighting systems and, of course, work with plants regularly. Woodworking will be led by a skilled carpenter with whom you will work and assist. Building these teams of carpenters and landscapers we feel is the secret to our continued success.

To be successful in this we require at least 3 years professional landscaping experience with a reputable firm. You’ll need a means of getting you and your tools to and from job sites--a truck or van is ideal but not required--and we expect you’ll have a basic set of personal gardening tools; we provide larger equipment as needed.

    Pay/ Benefits

We offer some of the best pay in the industry and a full benefits package including healthcare, vacation, retirement, paid holidays, commuter benefits, boot allowance and much more. With professional landscape construction experience between 3 and 12 years, a landscape builder at RareField can expect to start between $25 and $35/hr, with the upper range requiring a high skill set in all landscape trades. There’s plenty of room for growth, with positions ranging from apprentice to Foreman and Project Manager.

    How to Apply

Please send a Cover Letter and Resume detailing your experience and why you’d like to join our team via the contact button, or to design@rarefieldsf.com. Feel free to include pictures of your work if you have them. Please be sure to check out our Website and Social Media Accounts to see examples of our work.

Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

People of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

    No Drop-Ins Please.

  • Job Description/ Requirements

As a Site Lead at RareField, you will layout the project with our design team to achieve design goals, map out the production schedule with the project manager, and coordinate scheduling, subcontractors, material orders, and RF personnel requirements to hit the production goals for the project.  A broad skillset in Landscaping and Construction is required, though expertise in every area is not.  That said, our most successful Site Leads typically have a background in framing through finish carpentry both interior and exterior, an understanding of grading and drainage, low-voltage landscape lighting, irrigation, stonework both dry-laid and mortared, retaining walls, decks, fences, doors and windows, and so forth.  You must be able to read and interpret plans.  You must be able to offer on-site analysis and solutions for unforeseen problems and present these to the management and design teams in order to stay on track in terms of production and quality and/or better reach design goals and/or better incorporate artisanal details that are the hallmark of our work.

On top of these professional skills, it is imperative that you align with RareField's mission to elevate trade work and trade workers of all backgrounds.  You will be a force-multiplier who understands that great ideas can come from anywhere and everyone will work harder and with more passion toward goals that they see as mutually beneficial and on projects to which they feel their contributions are making a positive difference.  Many of our crew come from non-construction backgrounds such as art school. They might have a psychology degree, or might be starting on a second successful career in mid-life.  Regardless of how you were trained, you will need to make space for crew members to try new things, to fail, and to learn.  Many times the outcome may not be exactly as  it would have bene if you'd done it yourself.  Sometimes it will be better.  And either way, this is a team effort.

If the description of this position resonates with you as much as our work, please drop us a line anytime.  The range of pay for Site Leads at RareField is $40-$45/hr and includes steady, year-round work with benefits, holidays, PTO, company-contributing retirement plans, boot and rain gear reimbursements, and more.

  • Job Description/ Requirements

As a Carpenter on the RareField crew you will be presented with a variety of work that challenges your perceptions of the trade. The bulk of our work will include decks, trellis, pergolas and other refined outdoor structures. This is not the crude outdoor work you may often have seen but outdoor, finish carpentry held to the highest standards. Additionally, you’ll build simple through complex concrete forms for walls and architectural structures. Additional work includes installation of doors and windows and full interior remodels including kitchens and baths that may be attached to a garden project. Experience with other trades including tile, sheet rock, painting, plumbing & light electrical will come in handy. As a carpenter on our crew you’ll often work alongside a Landscape Builder whose focus is soils, plants, irrigation, stonework and the like. When you’re not building with wood, you may be applying your eye and skill to refined metal and stone details as well.

To be successful in this, we require at least 3 years professional carpentry experience with a reputable firm. You’ll need a means of getting you and your tools to and from job sites--a truck or van is ideal but not required--and we expect you’ll have a basic set of personal tools; we provide larger equipment as needed.

    Pay/ Benefits

We offer some of the best pay in the industry and a full benefits package including healthcare, vacation, retirement, paid holidays, commuter benefits, boot allowance and much more. With professional carpentry experience between 5 and 12 years, a Carpenter at RareField can expect between $30 and $40/hr to start with the upper range requiring a broad skillset and the ability to work independently from plans. There’s plenty of room for growth with positions ranging from apprentice to Foreman and Project Manager.
