Sunnyside Hillside

A steep hill and a nice view often go hand in hand.  They can make it tough to create usable space but a mix of cantilevered decking, and off-set terraced retaining were used to great effect to create a stylish, modern extension of the home for this young family. 

A classic California pepper tree was existing, though torturously pruned.  With a bit of skill and and artist’s eye, several new, useful, and visually appealing spaces were created by the team at RareField using a combination of rough and smooth materials to mate the home and garden to it’s site, creating shadow-play and pockets for childhood creativity, as well as warm spots for lounging and enjoying the unique vantage point!
